Large String of Turtles

The String of Turtles (Peperomia prostrata), also known as the Turtle Vine or Jade Necklace, is a unique trailing succulent plant with small, round leaves that resemble turtle shells. It's a relatively easy plant to care for. Here's how to care for your String of Turtles:

Light:

• Provide bright, indirect light for your String of Turtles. It appreciates plenty of light but should be protected from direct sunlight, which can scorch its delicate leaves. A north or east-facing window is ideal, or you can use a sheer curtain to filter the light.

Temperature:

• Maintain a temperature range between 65°F to 75°F (18°C to 24°C). Protect the plant from cold drafts, as it's sensitive to temperature fluctuations.

Watering:

• Allow the top inch (2.5 cm) of the soil to dry out before watering. String of Turtles prefers to be kept on the drier side, so it's crucial not to overwater. When you water, do so thoroughly, but ensure that the pot has good drainage to prevent water from pooling at the bottom.

Humidity:

• String of Turtles appreciates moderate to high humidity. If the air in your home is dry, use a humidifier, place a tray with water and pebbles near the plant, or mist it regularly to increase humidity.

Soil:

• Use a well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture but doesn't become waterlogged. A mix formulated for succulents or cacti is suitable.

Potting:

• Repot your String of Turtles when it becomes root-bound or outgrows its pot. This is typically needed every 1-2 years. Choose a slightly larger pot with good drainage and fresh potting mix.

Fertilizing:

• Feed your String of Turtles every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring through early autumn) with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer. Reduce or eliminate fertilization in the winter when the plant's growth slows down.
